Modelling world energy security data from multinomial distribution by generalized linear model under different cumulative link functions

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2018
Energy security is one of the major components of energy sustainability in the world’s energy performance. In this study, energy security is taken as an ordinal response variable coming from the multinomial distribution with the energy grade levels A, B,

Syndemic Characterization of HCV, HBV, and HIV Co-infections in a Large Population Based Cohort Study

open access: yesEClinicalMedicine, 2018
Background: Limited data are available on HBV, HCV, and HIV co-infections and triple infection. We characterized co-occurrence of HIV, HBV, and HCV infections at the population level in British Columbia (BC) to identify patterns of predisposing factors ...

A Probabilistic Proof of the Multinomial Theorem

open access: yes, 2016
In this note, we give an alternate proof of the multinomial theorem using a probabilistic approach. Although the multinomial theorem is basically a combinatorial result, our proof may be simpler for a student familiar with only basic probability concepts.

Can a single question about family members’ sense of security during palliative care predict their well-being during bereavement? A longitudinal study during ongoing care and one year after the patient’s death

open access: yesBMC Palliative Care, 2019
Background It has been recognised that more evidence about important aspects of family members’ sense of security during palliative care is needed. The objectives of the study was: i) to discover what variables are associated with family members feeling ...

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Relationship Between Neurologic Symptoms and Signs and FMR1 Genotype in Premutation Carriers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Fragile X‐associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is the most severe late‐onset condition caused by a premutation in the FMR1 gene, characterized by expanded CGG triplet repeats of 55–200. Clinical presentations of FXTAS, including gait ataxia, kinetic tremor, cognitive decline, and rare Parkinsonism, are linked to ...

Connecting the latent multinomial

open access: yes, 2015
Link et al. (2010) define a general framework for analyzing capture-recapture data with potential misidentifications. In this framework, the observed vector of counts, $y$, is considered as a linear function of a vector of latent counts, $x$, such that ...

Preferences for Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Prevention Strategies in Individuals With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective There is growing interest in evaluating new strategies to delay or prevent posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in individuals who have sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This study sought to determine characteristics of potential treatments that are acceptable to patients with ACL injury. Methods Participants with a history of
