Birds involved in bird shows were compared against non‐show birds regarding show paticipation, behaviour, body score condiiton, and feather condition. Additionally, comparisons between on and off show days as well as before and after the show were made to investigate differences in behaviour and condition. ABSTRACT This essay explores, from transnational perspectives, the early history of modern cremation, which developed in the long nineteenth century with secularist connotations. I argue that the beginnings of modern cremation were shaped by bourgeois men who claimed certain identifiers for themselves in a gendering and Othering way.
