Assessing SWOT's Measurement Capabilities in the Complex Paraná River

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Estimating water surface elevation (WSE) is crucial for understanding hydrological processes; however, many rivers remain insufficiently monitored due to the limitations of in situ gauge networks. The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar technology, enables global monitoring of WSE with high

Characterization of the Plumbing System Beneath Askja Caldera, Iceland, Revealed by Microgravity and Deformation Data During Uplift Between 2022 and 2023

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract In July 2021, an episode of uplift started at Askja caldera, Iceland, following over 50 years of subsidence. The initial inflation rate was approximately 700mm/yr $700\hspace*{.5em}\mathrm{m}\mathrm{m}/\mathrm{y}\mathrm{r}$, declining to 350mm/yr $350\hspace*{.5em}\mathrm{m}\mathrm{m}/\mathrm{y}\mathrm{r}$ within 1 month.

Implications of Thermal Weakening and Magma Compressibility for Volcano Monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Magmatic intrusion and volcanic deformation are traditionally approximated with an inflating cavity in an elastic halfspace. Various analytical models predict surface displacement as a function of pressure or volume change, depth, and elastic crustal properties.
