Pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) Under Siege: Main Infectious Diseases and Their Role in Aquaculture and Wild Populations Amidst Environmental Change

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) is a key species for recreational and commercial fisheries in Argentina and holds significant aquaculture potential. It has been introduced to various countries worldwide, including Japan, where intensive aquaculture has developed.

Species-specific Real Time-PCR primers/probe systems to identify fish parasites of the genera Anisakis, Pseudoterranova and Hysterothylacium (Nematoda: Ascaridoidea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ascaridoid nematodes belonging to the genera Anisakis and Pseudoterranova are heteroxenous parasites, involving marine mammals as definitive hosts in their life-cycles, whereas crustaceans (krill), fish and squids acting as intermediate/paratenic hosts.

First Report of Philometroides sanguineus (Nematoda: Philometridae) in Farmed Goldfish (Carassius auratus) in Italy

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ornamental fish trade has facilitated the global dissemination of parasites, posing significant biosecurity risks. This study documents the first detection of the nematode Philometroides sanguineus in farmed goldfish (Carassius auratus) in Emilia‐Romagna, Italy.

Nutrient‐driven growth and microbiome shifts in the brown alga Sargassum fluitans III

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Since 2011, holopelagic Sargassum has been accumulating in a region of the tropical Atlantic now referred to as the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt (GASB). Among the hypothesized contributors to these accumulations are the increased inputs of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

Evolution of plant parasitism in the phylum Nematoda.

open access: yesAnnual Review of Phytopathology, 2015
Within the species-rich and trophically diverse phylum Nematoda, at least four independent major lineages of plant parasites have evolved, and in at least one of these major lineages plant parasitism arose independently multiple times. Ribosomal DNA data,

Armless mitochondrial tRNAs in Enoplea (Nematoda) [PDF]

open access: yesRNA Biology, 2012
The mitochondrial genome of metazoan animal typically encodes 22 tRNAs. Nematode mt-tRNAs normally lack the T-stem and instead feature a replacement loop. In the class Enoplea, putative mt-tRNAs that are even further reduced have been predicted to lack both the T- and the D-arm. Here we investigate these tRNA candidates in detail.

Temporal and Ontogenetic Changes in Feeding Ecology of a Characid From Karst Dolines of the Neotropics

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 34, Issue 4, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Environmental and biological factors strongly shape fish diets, yet little is known about such influences in flooded Karst Dolines of the Neotropical region. This study examined the diet of Deuterodon luetkenii and assessed its temporal and ontogenetic variation in Lagoa Misteriosa, a karstic lagoon. Fish were sampled bimonthly over 1 year and
