Essential Oil Profiles of Lippia turbinata (Verbenaceae) from Argentina: Insights from a Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This study systematically reviews essential oil (EO) profiles of Lippia turbinata (Verbenaceae) populations from Argentina. A meta‐analysis reveals significant chemical variability and distinct chemotypes, primarily defined by limonene, carvone, β‐caryophyllene, and caryophyllene oxide.

Long-Term Exposure to 6-PPD Quinone Inhibits Glutamate Synthesis and Glutamate Receptor Function Associated with Its Toxicity Induction in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesToxics
6-PPD quinone (6-PPDQ) is widely distributed in environments. In Caenorhabditis elegans, we first examined the effects of 6-PPDQ on glutamate synthesis and receptor function by analyzing glutamate content, related gene expression, and phenotypes after ...

Comparative Proteomics of Salinity Stress Responses in Fish and Aquatic Invertebrates

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fluctuating salinity is symptomatic of climate change challenging aquatic species. The melting of polar ice, rising sea levels, coastal surface and groundwater salinization, and increased evaporation in arid habitats alter salinity worldwide. Moreover, the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as rainstorms and floods increase,

Nematodes Go Viral

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2011
TinyTiny worms with simple genetics, nematodes have almost everything it takes to be a favored model system to study viral infections. Recent work has shown that the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, long known to enlist innate immune pathways against bacteria, can also muster such resistance to viruses. And because these immune responses function much

Synthesizing current knowledge on the ecology, phenology, and cultivation of Vaccinium membranaceum

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
More than 100 edible native berries grow across Canada's vast territory and are used by over 600 Indigenous Peoples of Canada as a main component of their diet. This research provides critical insights into the ecology, phenology, and cultivation of black huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum), a species of significant ecological and cultural importance ...

Incorporating soil biological and functional attributes to advance ecological restoration

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Earth is currently experiencing a mass extinction crisis, predominantly driven by anthropogenic activities, with land use change causing widespread loss and degradation of native ecosystems and indigenous species. There is an urgent need to halt this trend and restore degraded habitat to preserve biodiversity and protect threatened plants and animals ...
