On the biology of two high mountain populations of stoneflies (Plecoptera, Perlodidae) in the southern Iberian Peninsula [PDF]
The life history of two species of Perlodidae stoneflies, Perlodes microcephalus (Pictet, 1833) and Isoperla nevada Aubert, 1952, are studied in a high mountain stream of the Sierra Nevada (Granada, Spain). Both species show a univoltine life cycle.

The curious case of the disappearing piRNAs
piRNAdise lost: piRNAs, a key component of the defense against transposable elements appeared very early in animal evolution. Remarkably however, they have been lost multiple times independently in different lineages (schematically indicated by pale blue dots), and as yet no clear explanation has been uncovered.

Water-seeking behavior in worm-infected crickets and reversibility of parasitic manipulation [PDF]
One of the most fascinating examples of parasite-induced host manipulation is that of hairworms, first, because they induce a spectacular "suicide” water-seeking behavior in their terrestrial insect hosts and, second, because the emergence of the ...
