Feeding habits of juvenile Chacophrys pierottii (Ceratophryidae-Ceratophryinae) From northwestern Córdoba province, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
the Chacoan burrowing Frog Chacophrys pierottii (Ceratophryidae-Ceratophryinae) is an endemic species of the Chaco region in south america. there is scarce information about the biology of the species and limited information about its post-metamorphic ...

Evolution of air‐borne vocalization: Insights from neural studies in the archeobatrachian species Bombina orientalis

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 532, Issue 3, March 2024.
After stimulation of the statoacoustic nerve (N. VIII) or of vocalization‐relevant forebrain structures of the Chinese fire‐bellied toad Bombina orientalis, we discovered increased durations of activation of motor nerve root recordings of isolated male brains in comparison to female brains. These increased durations in male brains can be interpreted as

Complete mitochondrial genome of Nanorana pleskei (Amphibia: Anura: Dicroglossidae) and evolutionary characteristics of the amphibian mitochondrial genomes

open access: yesCurrent Zoology, 2011
The complete mitochondrial genome of Nanorana pleskei from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was sequenced. It includes 17,660 base pairs, containing 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs and 23 tRNAs.

Jurassic frogs and the evolution of amphibian endemism in the Western Ghats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The diversity of frogs and toads (Anurans) in tropical evergreen forests has recently gained importance with reports of several new species1. We describe here a fossorial frog taxon related to the African Heleophrynidae and Seychellian Sooglossidae ...

Piecing the barcoding puzzle of Palearctic water frogs (Pelophylax) sheds light on amphibian biogeography and global invasions

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 3, March 2024.
By revisiting three decades of molecular data, we retraced the evolution and mapped the diversity of Pelophylax water frogs, a famous group of Eurasian amphibians. The results highlight the Paratethys Paleo‐sea as a major driver of diversification, implement a new timetree validation approach, emphasize the rare ability of lineages to hybridize despite

Phylogenetic relationships of Chilean leptodactylids: a molecular approach based on mitochondrial genes 12S and 16S Relaciones filogenéticas de los leptodactílidos chilenos: una aproximación molecular basada en los genes mitocondriales 12S y 16S

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2006
Most Chilean amphibians belong to the subfamily Telmatobiinae (Anura, Leptodactylidae). Several phylogenetic studies of Leptodactylidae and Telmatobiinae, based principally on morphological characters, have implicitly suggested closer relationships of ...

Selecting optimal partitioning schemes for phylogenomic datasets

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND Partitioning involves estimating independent models of molecular evolution for different subsets of sites in a sequence alignment, and has been shown to improve phylogenetic inference.

Early Pliocene anuran fossils from Kanapoi, Kenya, and the first fossil record for the African burrowing frog Hemisus (Neobatrachia: Hemisotidae)

open access: yesJournal of Human Evolution, 2020
Isolated amphibian bones from the early Pliocene of Kanapoi (West Turkana, Kenya) help to improve the scarce fossil record of the late Neogene and Quaternary amphibians from East Africa. All currently available 579 bones are referable exclusively to the Anura (frogs and toads). More than half of the remains (366) are identified as Hemisus cf.
