Lagrangian formulation of neoclassical transport theory [PDF]

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids, 1983
Neoclassical transport theory is developed in a Lagrangian formulation in contrast to the usual Eulerian development. The Lagrangian formulation is constructed from the three actions: magnetic moment, parallel invariant, and bounce-averaged poloidal flux.

ESTIMATION OF RADIATION LOSS FROM STELLARATORS USING NEOCLASSICAL TRANSPORT THEORY [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 1993
The radiation power loss from a magnetically confined plasma in a stellarator has been calculated using neoclassical particle and energy fluxes in an energy balance equation. We could obtain a power loss of about 34% of the total input power by numerical

Assessment of validity of local neoclassical transport theory for studies of electric-field root-transitions in the W7-X stellarator

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The neoclassical ambipolarity condition governing the radial electric field in stellarators can have several solutions, and sudden transitions (in radius) between these can then take place. The radial position and structure of such a transition cannot be

Radical uncertainty and the effect of transport infrastructure on land prices [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Political Economy, 2023
Most contributions in the academic literature identify a positive effect of transport infrastructure on land prices. However, their short-run dynamics has not been routinely analyzed.

Enhancement of neoclassical impurity density up/down asymmetry and Pfirsch–Schlüter transport due to the plasma elongation in the tokamak plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
The standard neoclassical theory of the impurity transport in tokamak plasma is improved by including the plasma elongation effect. The neoclassical up/down asymmetry of the impurity density is largely enhanced by the plasma elongation and is under ...

Prevention of core particle depletion in stellarators by turbulence

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2023
In reactor-relevant plasmas, neoclassical transport drives an outward particle flux in the core of large stellarators and predicts strongly hollow density profiles. However, this theoretical prediction is contradicted by experiments.

Moment equation approach to neoclassical transport theory [PDF]

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids, 1977
The neoclassical cross-field fluxes for a toroidally confined, axisymmetric plasma are calculated in terms of the thermodynamic forces from the fluid continuity and momentum balance equations. This macroscopic formulation of neoclassical transport theory unifies the numerous complex expressions for the transport coefficients, previously obtained by ...

Visualization of fast ion phase-space flow in plasmas well-below, near and well-above Alfvén eigenmode stability threshold in tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Transport of fast ions along certain local phase space paths, referred to as fast ion phase-space flow, has been systematically measured by an imaging neutral particle analyzer (INPA) in three plasma regimes, which are well-below, near, and well-above ...

Large-aspect-ratio limit of neoclassical transport theory

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2003
This paper presents a comprehensive description of neoclassical transport theory in the banana regime for large-aspect-ratio flux surfaces of arbitrary shapes. The method of matched-asymptotic expansions is used to obtain analytical solutions for plasma distribution functions and to compute transport coefficients.
