Neoclassical transport theory of a toroidal axisymmetric plasma with impurities

Nuclear Fusion, 1974
The neoclassical transport theory of a toroidal plasma in the presence of ion impurities is investigated. In particular, referring to situations with hydrogen ions and electrons in the banana regime, the two possibilities, of the impurity ions being in the banana or in the plateau regime, are considered.

Theory and Simulation of Neoclassical Transport Processes, with Local Trapping

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
Neoclassical transport is studied using idealized simulations that follow guiding centers in given fields, neglecting collective effects on the plasma evolution, but including collisions at rate ν. For simplicity the magnetic field is assumed to be uniform; transport is due to asymmetries in applied electrostatic fields.

Neoclassical quasilinear transport theory in tokamak plasmas

Journal of Plasma Physics, 1999
A synthetic theory of neoclassical and anomalous transport in a weakly turbulent tokamak plasma is presented. The neoclassical effect on the anomalous particle and heat fluxes and the parallel current in the presence of electrostatic fluctuations is investigated using the kinetic equations for the ensemble-averaged and fluctuating distribution ...

Neoclassical theory of collisional transport in the presence of fusion α-particles

Nuclear Fusion, 1975
The neoclassical transport theory is developed for an axisymmetric toroidal plasma containing highly energetic α-particles as produced by fusion events. It is shown that the α-particle fluxes in this case have a weaker dependence on the aspect ratio than at lower energies since the prevailing collisional effect is a drag.

Extended neoclassical transport theory for incompressible tokamak plasmas

Physics of Plasmas, 1997
Conventional neoclassical transport theory is extended to include the effects of orbit squeezing, and to allow the effective poloidal Mach number UpM=[(V∥/vt)+(VEB/vtBp)] of the order of unity for incompressible tokamak plasmas. Here, V∥ is the parallel mass flow, vt is the ion thermal speed, VE is the poloidal E×B drift speed, B is the magnetic field ...

Neoclassical quasilinear transport theory of fluctuations in toroidal plasmas

The Physics of Fluids, 1988
A transport theory of fluctuations with frequencies less than the gyrofrequency in toroidal plasmas is developed to calculate particle and heat fluxes, bootstrap current, Ware pinch flux, and modification to plasma conductivity. It is found that the particle and heat fluxes are proportional to ∑m,n,ωm2(eΦ̃mnω/Te)2, the bootstrap current and Ware pinch ...

An improved formulation of the ripple-averaged kinetic theory of neoclassical transport in stellarators

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2001
The ripple-averaged kinetic theory of neoclassical transport in multiple-helicity stellarators is presented anew, using a formulation which ameliorates several shortcomings of the conventional approach. In particular, during the averaging procedure the usual simplifying assumptions of symmetric local ripples and `small' rotational transform per field ...

Revisited neoclassical transport theory for steep, collisional plasma edge profiles

Physics of Plasmas, 1994
It is shown that existing neoclassical theories in the high collisionality regime are inadequate to describe the edge plasma, where the gradient length scales are of the order of (only) a few centimeters (the ‘‘edge’’ is defined here in relation to the neutrals ionization depth).

Enhanced rotation velocities and electric fields, sub-neoclassical energy transport and density pinch from revisited neoclassical theory

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1998
We show that the large negative radial electric fields which are measured in front of the separatrix in H-mode discharges are easily explainable on the basis of the rigorous `revisited' neoclassical theory, including finite Larmor radii and inertia effects that was published earlier (Rogister A 1994 Phys.
