Thermal Requirements, Fertility, and Number of Generations of Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)

Neotropical Entomology, 2015
The small tomato borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is one of the major pests of solanaceous in Central and South America. Little is known about the role of temperature on the biological traits of this species. Development time of the immature stages and longevity and reproduction of adults of N.

Avaliação do feromônio sexual de Neoleucinodes elegantalis Guenée (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Entomology, 2003
Four synthetic components of the sexual pheromone identified from the small tomato borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis Guenee (BPT) were evaluated: (E)-11-hexadecenol (E11-16:OH), (Z)-11-hexadecenol (Z11-16:OH), (E)-11-hexadecenal (E11-16:Al) and (E)-11-hexadecenyl acetate (E11-16:OAc). Field tests were carried out with traps aiming at identifying the most

Eclosion time and larval behavior of the tomato fruit borer, Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [PDF]

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2003
In several regions of Brazil, Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) is one of the most serious tomato pests. The moth lays eggs on the calyx or developing fruit, and shortly after eclosion larvae penetrate into the fruit, where they remain until pupation.

Sex Pheromone of Tomato Fruit Borer, Neoleucinodes elegantalis

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2001
Five candidate pheromone components were identified by analyzing pheromone gland extracts by gas chromatography (GC), coupled GC-electroantennographic detection (EAD), and coupled GC-mass spectrometry (MS) : (E)-11-hexadecenol(E11-16 : OH), (Z)-11-hexadecenol (Z11-16 : OH), (E)-11-hexadecenal, (E)-11-hexadecenyl acetate, and (Z)-3,(Z)-6,(Z)-9 ...

Insecticide toxicity to the borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae): developmental and egg-laying effects

open access: yesNeotropical Entomology, 2017
Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is one of the major pests of solanaceous plants in South America. It is considered a great threat by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization due to the serious economic damage that it causes on tomato farms; therefore, controlling this pest is a challenging task in South ...

Calling behaviour and evaluation of sex pheromone glands extract of Neoleucinodes elegantalis Guenée (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in wind tunnel [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Entomology, 2000
Adult emergence and mating behavior of Neoleucinodes elegantalis Guenée were studied under laboratory conditions (23 ± 1°C, 12 h photophase and 70% RH). Adult emergence occurred only at scotophase period. Female began to emerge from the 1st hour to 8th hour with a peak occurring at 4th hour of scotophase.

Climatic variables limit population abundance of Neoleucinodes elegantalis: Important neotropical tomato pest

Crop Protection, 2020
Abstract The small tomato borer, Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenee) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), is a significant pest of tomato crops in Central and South America, where its occurrence and abundance is dependent on environmental factors. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of climate variables on the abundance of N.

Mate selection in the moth Neoleucinodes elegantalis: evidence for a supernormal chemical stimulus in sexual attraction

Animal Behaviour, 2007
We studied mate selection mechanisms in the tomato fruit borer moth Neoleucinodes elegantalis, and we found that males and females tended to mate monogamously. Males chose a female according to the blend of her sex pheromone, and they preferred heavier females for mating.

A new species of Lixophaga Townsend (Diptera: Tachinidae) from Colombia, a parasitoid of Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)

Zootaxa, 2013
A new species of Lixophaga Townsend (Diptera: Tachinidae) from Colombia, Lixophaga puscolulo Carrejo & Woodley, sp. nov., is described and illustrated. It is a parasitoid of the tomato fruit borer, Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), an insect pest of Solanum quitoense Lam., in Colombia.
