The Classification of Schizophrenic Neologisms

The use of neologisms has long been considered a symptom of schizophrenic thought disorder. However, a review of current literature and psychiatric textbooks reveals few clinical examples of neologism that may be used for illustrative purposes. A prominent exception is a paper by Forest (1969).

A Neologism Learning Test

Shapiro and Nelson (1955) suggested that an important factor in the cognitive impairment of psychiatric patients was a diminution of present learning ability. They devised a new test in which the subject had to learn and retain the meanings of five previously unknown words.

Neologisms in contemporary Turkish

This paper reports the results of a quantitative experimental study designed to reveal semantic changes involved in lexical variation in Turkish. Lexical variation under investigation has been the result of a linguistic policy, which has foreseen the replacement of Arabic and Persian loanwords with neologisms.
