Clinicopathological significance of PTEN loss and the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt pathway in sporadic colorectal neoplasms: is PTEN loss predictor of local recurrence?

The American Journal of Surgery, 2008
PTEN is a tumor-suppressor gene located on chromosome 10. Deficient PTEN expression leads to activation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt (pAkt) signaling pathway, which may contribute to multiple human cancers. The relation between PTEN expression and Akt activation is still unclear in colorectal cancers and adenomatous polyps.

Re-irradiation of the pelvis for a genitourinary second malignant neoplasm or a local recurrence after full-dose pelvic radiotherapy for a pelvic cancer: Experience in a high-volume cancer center.

Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2016
494 Background: Re-irradiation (re-RT) with external beam RT following prior pelvic RT has not been reported, given both an absence of guidelines and concerns for toxicity. We sought to characterize bladder and bowel toxicities among patients treated with high-dose palliative re-RT for genitourinary secondary malignant neoplasms (SMN) or local ...

[Surgical treatment of local recurrence of malignant lung neoplasms].

Khirurgiia, 1993
Forty-seven reoperations were performed on 46 patients for local recurrence of carcinoma and other malignant tumors of the lung after surgical treatment. In two thirds of cases the local recurrence was a consequence of various errors in therapeutic tactics and surgical techniques made during the operation for the primary tumor. The malignant lung tumor

[Prognosis in radiotherapy of patients with local recurrence of cervix neoplasms].

Voprosy onkologii, 1977
An analysis of the results of treatment in 231 patients with recurrences of cervical cancer is presented in relation to 5-year survival criterion ("dynamic analysis"). An actual 5-year survival rate was 16.0%. The most important factors determining the prognosis include the stage of the primary process, localization of the secondary tumor, terms of the

Peripheral Neuroectodermal Tumor-Ewing's Sarcoma of the Thumb With Local Recurrences and Pleural Metastases After 17 Years

International Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1994
We report a case of an 8-year-old boy who initially presented with a painful subungual mass that was diagnosed as a "glomus tumor" largely based on the clinical presenta tion. Local excision was performed, and the patient remained tumor free for 17 years, after which he experienced three local recurrences and massive pleural metastases within the next

[Intra-arterial chemotherapy in locally advanced or recurrent breast neoplasms].

La Radiologia medica, 1996
Intraarterial chemotherapy is studied as an alternative procedure for the neoadjuvant treatment of locally advanced and recurrent breast cancer. Our study was aimed at investigating the feasibility, the toxicity and the local response rate of an intraarterial chemotherapy regimen including 5-fluorouracil, epirubicin and mitomycin.
