KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Factors Associated with Nodal Recurrence in Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer and Correlation with Microvessel and Microlymphatic Vessel Density

open access: yesJournal of Head & Neck Physicians and Surgeons
Purpose: This study evaluates the patterns of failure in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer. It identifies clinicopathologic features and biomarkers, such as microvessel density (MVD) and microlymphatic vessel density (MVLD), associated with ...

BMI‐1 modulation and trafficking during M phase in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The schematic illustrates BMI‐1 phosphorylation during M phase, which triggers its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In cycling cells, BMI‐1 functions within the PRC1 complex to mediate H2A K119 monoubiquitination. Following PTC596‐induced M phase arrest, phosphorylated BMI‐1 dissociates from PRC1 and is exported to the cytoplasm via its

Multiple arterial embolization from left atrial myxoma in a Maltese boy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Atrial myxoma is rare in adults and even rarer in children. In this article the author describes. The presentation may be with embolic, obstructive or constitutional symptoms, which may be dramatic and life-threatening.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

[Neoplasm recurrence after partial laryngectomy].

open access: yesOtolaryngologia polska = The Polish otolaryngology, 1998
The frequency and type of failures after 121 partial laryngectomies in patients treated for cancer of larynx during 10 years (1980-1989) were evaluated. Failures in treatment (in the from of a local and nodal recurrence, distant metastasis or second primary malignant tumour) were noted in 33 (27.3%) cases.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.
