Cultivo de matrinxã Brycon orthotaenia (Günther, 1864) em tanques-rede, em diferentes densidades de estocagem = Matrinxã Brycon orthotaenia rearing in floating cage in different stocking densities

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2010

Reorganization without disruption: How fire‐driven spatiotemporal changes in floral resource landscapes influence plant–bee interaction networks

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
Contrary to fire suppression policies that promote ecological homogenization, we suggest that patchy prescribed fires could be used to enhance spatiotemporal diversity in the Cerrado by promoting fine‐scale heterogeneity in floral resources and resource‐mediated plant–bee interactions.

Evaluating potential restoration strategies for vascular epiphytes with niche‐based community mechanistic models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
Generally, delayed restoration of adult‐only epiphyte populations into older restored forests improves conservation outcomes. However, restoration can be optimised, initially introducing large populations of fast‐growing, light‐when‐mature species in younger forests followed by the later introduction of slow‐growing, heavy‐when‐mature species in ...

Five new species of Hemibrycon (Characiformes: Characidae) from the Río Magdalena basin, Colombia

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2010
Five new fish species of the genus Hemibrycon are described from the Río Magdalena basin, Colombia, using morphometric, meristic and osteological characters. Hemibrycon paez (n=40) differs in number of lateral line scales (39 to 42 vs.

The predatory behavior of ants: an impressive panoply of morphological adaptations

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 33, Issue 4, Page 1256-1284, August 2026.
This review focuses on predation in ants, showing the wide diversity of cases from solitary foraging to group hunting tactics, as well as the evolution of mandible shape frequently adapted to capture specific prey. Although most ants are generalist feeders, finding their sugary substances directly on plants or indirectly via sap‐sucking insects, some ...

Hidden Microbiota Inhabiting in Pollen Reserves of Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) From Amazonas Region Revealed by DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
DNA metabarcoding of honey bee pollen reserves from Amazonas region reveals that microbial communities are strongly shaped by their ecosystem. Despite high taxonomic turnover across different habitats, these microbiomes maintain stable, essential functions for pollinator health, though they remain highly vulnerable to habitat homogenization.

Population genetic structure revealed by a school of the freshwatermigratory fish, Brycon hilarii Estructura genética poblacional revelada por un cardumen del pez migratorio de agua dulce, Brycon hilarii

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2012
It is believed that different genetic populations of migratory fishes can co-exist in a single hydrographic system. Although different populations may occupy and explore the river together, they segregate during the spawning season and consequently the ...

Effectiveness of conservation lands in Mexico for safeguarding terrestrial endemic species from the human‐induced extinction crisis

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
Across 1639 endemic Mexican species, we show that most species' ranges coincide with moderate to high human pressure, while existing conservation lands cover only a small fraction of their distributions. This spatial mismatch indicates that current conservation–land networks are insufficient to prevent future biodiversity loss. Substantial expansion of

She Doesn't Whisper: Female‐Prominent Stridulation Shaped by Morphology in a Buthid Scorpion and Insights on Its Function

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 8, Page 533-543, August 2026.
Sexual dimorphism and stress‐induced stridulatory responses in Jaguajir rochae (Borelli, 1910). Females exhibited greater absolute pectinal size and higher sound pressure levels, whereas males showed higher pectinal allometric ratios relative to body size, lower sound frequencies, and shorter delta times.
