Notes on the Nomenclature of Neotropical Capparaceae: An Answer to Global flora

Harvard Papers in Botany, 2018
The 90 new combinations on Neotropical Capparaceae published in The Global Flora (Plant Gateway, 2018) are here discussed and clarified. On the basis of morphologic and molecular studies, the name of Morisonia L. cannot be applied in a broad sense for all Neotropical Capparaceae.

Is the Neotropical Flora Ready for the PhyloCode?

The Botanical Review, 2003
Nomenclatural systems are structured around classification, and together they enable increasingly informed communication about biological diversity. Challengers of Linnaean classification and nomenclature have proposed the PhyloCode, a new set of rules that would govern the way systematists classify and name the diversity of life. Monographs and floras

Extinction‐Rate Estimates for a Modern Neotropical Flora

Conservation Biology, 2002
Abstract: Concerns about elevated extinction rates in the tropics are a common feature of the conservation literature, but direct measurements are rare. We present the first quantitative estimates of extinction rate in a complete Neotropical flora based on historical plant‐collection records, quantitative ...

Biotic and abiotic factors in promoting the starting point of hybridization in the Neotropical flora: implications for conservation in a changing world

Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2022
AbstractCoevolution between floral traits and specific pollination behaviour is a significant evolutionary force in angiosperm diversification. However, hybridization is also reported to occur between plants with specialist pollination syndromes. Understanding the role of pollinators in plant diversification is crucial, especially in megadiverse ...

BREEDING SYSTEMS AND SEED SIZE IN A NEOTROPICAL FLORA: TESTING EVOLUTIONARY HYPOTHESES

Ecology, 2008
A well‐known, but largely untested, prediction in plant reproductive ecology is that dioecious taxa should produce larger, more, higher‐quality, or better‐defended seeds than cosexual taxa. Using a data set composed of 972 species in 104 families, representing the flora of the Tambopata Wildlife Reserve (Madre de Dios, Peru), we evaluated the first ...

Flora and ecology of a neotropical savanna, Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras

Folia Geobotanica, 2016
Neotropical savannas exhibit unique patterns of diversity of plant and animal life that are poorly understood. Effective conservation of these often imperiled ecosystems requires a basic understanding of species occurrence as well as the site-specific factors that influence plant community composition.
