First finding of Trichinella pseudospiralis in the Neotropical region

Veterinary Parasitology, 2015
Prior to this study, only encapsulated species of Trichinella had been found in South America, i.e., T. spiralis and T. patagoniensis. Here we report the molecular identification of a non-encapsulated isolate of Trichinella from a domestic pig in Argentina. The multiplex PCR technique and the analysis of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences revealed

Insecticidal Gene Silencing by RNAi in the Neotropical Region

Neotropical Entomology, 2019
Insecticidal gene silencing by RNA interference (RNAi) involves a post-transcriptional mechanism with great potential for insect control. Here, we aim to summarize the progress on RNAi research toward control of insect pests in the Neotropical region and discuss factors determining its efficacy and prospects for pest management.

Bird habitat preferences drive hemoparasite infection in the Neotropical region

Integrative Zoology, 2021
AbstractThe role that the environment plays in vector‐borne parasite infection is one of the central factors for understanding disease dynamics. We assessed how Neotropical bird foraging strata and habitat preferences determine infection by parasites of the genera Haemoproteus, Plasmodium, Leucocytozoon, and Trypanosoma and filarioids, and tested for ...

Introduction: The Birds in the Neotropical Region

2017
The class Aves is very diverse being distributed in almost all environments. This is particularly true in the Neotropical region as it is characterized by wide extensions of humid tropical forests, high climatic heterogeneity, and an important geological history. This history has produced a high diversity of habitats resulting in great avian diversity.

Genome Size Evaluation in Tetraodontiform Fishes from the Neotropical Region

Marine Biotechnology, 2009
Smooth pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae had become pure genomic models because of the remarkable compaction of their genome. This trait seems to be the result of DNA loss following its divergence from the sister family Diodontidae, which possess larger genomes.

Primate Conservation Priorities in the Neotropical Region

1986
Neotropical primates are found from southern Mexico, through central America and northern South America south as far as southern Brazil and northern Argentina (Fig. 16.1) and, with the exception of Chile and Uruguay, occur in all mainland South and Central American countries and on a few Caribbean islands as well. Sixteen genera and some 65 species are
