Aqueous Humour Cytokines as Predictors of Axial Elongation in High Myopia: A 2‐Year Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To investigate the predictive value of aqueous humour cytokines for axial elongation. Methods This was a prospective longitudinal observational study. 72 high myopia patients (72 eyes) who received implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation surgery with at least 2 years of follow‐up were included.

Zeb2 Controls Retinal Physiological and Pathological Angiogenesis by Regulating Astrocyte Proliferation and Differentiation

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
During development, the oxygen‐sensitive transcription factor Zeb2 restrains astrocyte proliferation and maturation to ensure balanced retinal angiogenesis. In disease, it promotes the neurotoxic A1 astrocyte phenotype and inflammation, thereby promoting reparative revascularization over pathological neovascularization.

Risk of Age‐Related Ocular Diseases in Non‐Diabetic Adults With Obesity Using Glucagon‐Like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To assess whether glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) are associated with a lower incidence of age‐related ocular diseases in non‐diabetic older adults with overweight or obesity. Materials and Methods We conducted a retrospective, propensity score–matched cohort study using the TriNetX global research network.

The development and management of neovascular glaucoma [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Ophthalmology, 1990
AbstractPatients with neovascular glaucoma (NVG) often present with neovascularisation of the iris (NVI) already established and prompt energetic treatment of these patients is needed to reverse or stabilise the condition with possible retention of some visual function.

Proteolytic remodelling of the extracellular matrix by pericytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Pericytes are specialised perivascular cells intimately connected with endothelial cells and essential for the maintenance of vascular beds. They contribute to the formation and remodelling of the extracellular matrix by actively secreting proteases and protease inhibitors.

Imaging of the Lamina Cribrosa using Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The lamina cribrosa (LC) is the presumed site of axonal injury in glaucoma. Its deformation has been suggested to contribute to optic neuropathy by impeding axoplasmic flow within the optic nerve fibers, leading to apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells. To

Causal effects of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on diabetes and its complications and comorbidities: A Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Diabetes poses a growing global health burden. This study investigated the causal effects of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on diabetes risk and related complications and comorbidities. Materials and Methods We applied two‐sample univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization to assess the causal impact of 26 lifestyle and ...
