Habitat and predator heterogeneity influence density of a declining mammal

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January 2026.
Accurate density estimates are crucial for effective conservation management. However, in highly dynamic landscapes where variation in habitat composition and predator–prey interactions in both space and time is likely, integrating spatiotemporal covariate effects in density estimation is challenging and often large datasets are needed.

Tick infestation (Ixodes) on feral mink (Neovison vison) in central Germany

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2010
Four species of ticks (I. hexagonus, I. rugicollis, I. canisuga, I. ricinus) were found to infest feral American mink (Neovison vison) in central Germany. About 45 % of all investigated mink were infested.

Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Emerging Viral Zoonotic Diseases, 2016–2026

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Emerging viral zoonoses—infections caused by viruses that cross the species barrier from animal reservoirs into human populations—account for the majority of emerging infectious disease (EID) events and now constitute a defining threat to global health security.

Morphology and function of pinniped necks: The long and short of it

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 308, Issue 12, Page 3175-3185, December 2025.
Abstract Terrestrial vertebrates from at least 30 distinct lineages in both extinct and extant clades have returned to aquatic environments. With these transitions came numerous morphological adaptations to accommodate life in water. Relatively little attention has been paid to the cervical region when tracking this transition.

Genetic Correlation to Olfactory Bulb Structure in Males of Different Mink Races (Neovison vison var. spec.)

open access: yes, 2017
Genes define the structure and function of the body and brain. Genetic alterations result sometimes in unexpected changes, for example albinism is not only a modification of the coat color but has also an effect on neuronal wiring.
