Combined Direct Visual and Imaging Guided Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy: A Novel Technique
Introduction Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a common urological procedure. Obtaining secure percutaneous access to the collecting system which is usually done under fluoroscopic guidance and tract dilatation is a crucial step toward a successful

A-scan ultrasound system for real-time puncture safety assessment during percutaneous nephrolithotomy [PDF]
Background: Kidney stone is a major universal health problem, affecting 10% of the population worldwide. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a first-line and established procedure for disintegration and removal of renal stones.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy: technique
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is considered to be the first line of treatment for large renal stones. Though PCNL comes with higher morbidity, its efficacy is unbeaten by other minimally invasive modalities. However, potential complications, such as bleeding, occur.

Complications of percutaneous nephrolithotomy [PDF]
Of 582 patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy, 4% had complications. The most common complications were fever (23%) and bleeding necessitating transfusion (12%). Extravasation was seen in 7% of patients and transient ureteral obstruction in 6%. Other complications included pneumothorax or hydrothorax, pneumonia/atelectasis, paralytic ileus,

Ureteroscopy-assisted percutaneous kidney access made easy: first clinical experience with a novel navigation system using electromagnetic guidance (IDEAL Stage 1) [PDF]
Background: Puncture of the renal collecting system represents a challenging step in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Limitations related to the use of standard fluoroscopic-based and ultrasound-based maneuvers have been recognized.

Collecting system percutaneous access using real-time tracking sensors : first pig model in vivo experience [PDF]
PURPOSE: Precise needle puncture of the renal collecting system is an essential but challenging step for successful percutaneous nephrolithotomy. We evaluated the efficiency of a new real-time electromagnetic tracking system for in vivo kidney puncture.

Supine versus prone position in percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: The decision for using supine or prone position in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is still debatable. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety profile of the supine and prone position when performing PCNL.
