The technique described involves the use of angiographic catheters and guides, and will provide drainage for several weeks or months. During a 6-year-period percutaneous nephrostomy has been used for supravesical urinary diversion in 115 patients and 132 individual kidneys. The procedure proved to be a safe and effective alternative to operative nephrostomy in patients with urinary obstruction but may be used also in other urologic conditions.
