Percutaneous needle nephrostomy [PDF]
Percutaneous nephrostomy is a simple technique for temporary drainage of an obstructed kidney. Under local anaesthesia a ureteric catheter is passed through a Vim-Silverman needle into the renal pelvis and is connected to a drainage bag. Seven cases (six successful) in which this method was used are described and the indications are discussed.

Percutaneous nephrostomy for endopyelotomy [PDF]
Percutaneous full-thickness incision and stenting of the ureteropelvic junction (endopyelotomy) relieved obstruction in 33 (87%) of 38 patients treated over a 2-year period. Proper placement of the percutaneous nephrostomy tract through a posterior middle calyx and of a guidewire across the ureteropelvic junction is necessary in order to gain access to

Percutaneous nephrostomy in infants
We reviewed our experience with percutaneous nephrostomy placement in children less than one year of age during a five-year period. Placement was successful in 8 of 9 cases. There were no complications. The procedure favorably altered the outcome for each patient and was useful for reversing azotemia prior to surgical intervention for repair of an ...
