The role of the 5-hydroxytryptamine pathway in reflux-induced esophageal mucosal injury in rats

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2012
Background Dysfunction of the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) signaling pathway can lead to gastrointestinal motility and secretion abnormalities and to visceral hypersensitivity.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

The Effect of Esomeprazole 40 mg Single Therapy in Patients with Non-Erosive Reflux Disease Who Are Resistant to Standard-Dose Proton Pump Inhibitor Therapy: An Open-Label Multicenter Study

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research, 2016
Background/Aims: Despite the efficacy of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment, a considerable number of patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) are resistant to treatment with a PPI at the standard dose.

From Pronoun to Identity: Tracing the History of the Word Otaku [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Words are vessels of power; the power to convey meaning. Words can give shape to the identity of a group, and the same word can stereotype one for generations. This research paper is about one such word – ‘Otaku’.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Optimizing (1‐x) BiFeO3‐xCaTiO3 Perovskites: A Pathway to Efficient Flexible Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Perovskite materials, like BFO CTO, are popular due to their high conductivity, low cost, and wide availability. In this work a symmetric electrochemical cell based on BFO‐CTO shows a charge of 3.356 C.cm⁻2, giving a specific capacitance of 2.79 mF.cm⁻2 at 1 mV.s⁻2.

Innovation and Education: Is there a ‘Nerd Effect’? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates whether entrepreneurs with technical education are more innovative in high-tech industries than economists. The main contribution to the literature is in using the type of education as main explanatory variable for innovation.
