Nereididae (littoral ones often referred to as ‘ragworms’) are probably the most familiar of annelids, both from textbooks in zoology and marine biology and from their occurrence on seashores around the world. They are widely employed in teaching, in laboratory experiments, and as bait for fishing.

Nereididae (Annelida: Phyllodocida) from intertidal macroalgae in Western Australia
Zootaxa, 2023The last extensive exploration of Nereididae diversity within coastal waters of Western Australia was done in 1975–1984. We collected Nereididae associated with macroalgae from 38 rocky intertidal shores of Western Australia (18°S to 34°S). Eighteen species belonging to seven genera are described and illustrated. Two new species, Nereis edentata n. sp.

Phylogenetic relationships within Nereididae (Annelida : Phyllodocida)
Invertebrate Systematics, 2006Nereididae Johnston, 1865, part of the large clade Phyllodocida, is one of the best-known annelid groups. Presently, there are some 500 nominal species grouped into 42 genera, although there is little consensus among different authors as to how they should be classified.
