Enhancement of the Nernst effect by stripe order in a high-Tc superconductor

open access: yes, 2009
The Nernst effect in metals is highly sensitive to two kinds of phase transition: superconductivity and density-wave order. The large positive Nernst signal observed in hole-doped high-Tc superconductors above their transition temperature Tc has so far ...

Emerging of Anomalous Higher‐Order Topological Phases in Altermagnet/Topological Insulator Heterostructure by Floquet Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We combine altermagnet with topological insulators and subject the structure to Floquet driving. This breaks time‐reversal symmetry and creates a new type of higher‐order topological insulator. Its key feature is the emergence of programmable “0/π‐corner modes” that can be controlled by magnetic field direction, offering a novel dynamic platform for ...

Bipolar Hydrogen Production from a Hybrid Alkaline‐Acidic Formaldehyde‐Proton Fuel Cell

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel hybrid alkaline‐acidic formaldehyde‐proton fuel cell (FPFC) was developed by coupling alkaline formaldehyde oxidation reaction (FOR) with acidic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This design enables concurrent bipolar H2 production and electricity generation.

Angular dependent magnetothermopower of alpha-(ET)2KHg(SCN)4

open access: yes, 2011
The magnetic field and angular dependencies of the thermopower and Nernst effect of the quasi-two-dimensional organic conductor alpha-(ET)2KHg(SCN)4 are experimentally measured at temperatures below (4 K) and above (9 K) the transition temperature to ...

Nonreciprocal Charge Transport in an Iron‐Based Superconductor with Broken Inversion Symmetry Engineered by a Hydrogen‐Concentration Gradient

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Concentration gradients can serve as a universal platform for breaking spatial inversion symmetry. We demonstrate this concept by observing nonreciprocal electrical transport—a sensitive probe of inversion‐symmetry breaking—in the iron‐based superconductor Sm1111 with an engineered hydrogen gradient.

A comprehensive study of electric, thermoelectric and thermal conductivities of Graphene with short range unitary and charged impurities

open access: yes, 2011
Motivated by the experimental measurement of electrical and hall conductivity, thermopower and Nernst effect, we calculate the longitudinal and transverse electrical and heat transport in graphene in the presence of unitary scatterers as well as charged ...

Asymmetry in Hydrophobicity Induces Electric Potential in Non‐Charged Biomolecular Condensates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Non‐charged biomolecular condensates can encode electric potential gradient through defining asymmetry in environmental hydrophobicity. ABSTRACT The capacity of biomolecular condensates to establish and modulate electrochemical equilibria is emerging as an important functioning mechanism in cellular biochemistry.

Nernst Effect as a Signature of Quantum Fluctuations in Quasi-1D Superconductors

open access: yes, 2013
We study a model for the transverse thermoelectric response due to quantum superconducting fluctuations in a two-leg Josephson ladder, subject to a perpendicular magnetic field B and a transverse temperature gradient. The off-diagonal Peltier coefficient

Ultrahigh anomalous Nernst thermopower and thermal Hall angle in YbMnBi2

open access: yesCommunications Materials
Thermoelectrics (TEs) are solid-state devices that can realize heat-electricity conversion. Transverse TEs require materials with a large Nernst effect, which typically requires a strong applied magnetic field.
