What Is Nerve-Sparing Radical Hysterectomy?
2020Since Wertheim introduced radical hysterectomy in 1911 [1], his method became the standard procedure for the surgical treatment of cervical cancer in Western Countries. However, in Japan, Takayama and Okabayashi at Kyoto Imperial University thought that Wertheim’s method is not radical enough for invasive cervical cancers.

Laparoscopic pelvic anatomy of nerve‐sparing radical hysterectomy
Clinical Anatomy, 2010AbstractMany reports regarding nerve‐sparing radical hysterectomy have been published. However, most reports have been based on systematic descriptions via laparotomy or cadaver dissection. The aim of this work was to describe the pelvic anatomy of nerve‐sparing radical hysterectomy via laparoscopy, with specific focus on the inferior hypogastric ...

Nerve-Sparing Radical Hysterectomy Made Easy by Laparoscopy
Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, 2014To evaluate the technical feasibility of nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy performed laparoscopically.Thirty-five women with cervical cancer stage Ia1 or Ib1.All patients underwent laparoscopic nerve-sparing hysterectomy.Oncologic results were comparable to those of conventional laparoscopic radical hysterectomy. There was complete recovery of bladder

Nerve-sparing robotic radical hysterectomy: our technique
Journal of Robotic Surgery, 2013Robotic surgery is now becoming accepted for treatment of gynaecological malignancies. Nerve preservation during radical hysterectomy is increasingly being offered due to improved post-operative bladder and sexual function. We aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of performing a nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy robotically and to assess the ...

A nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy: Guidelines and feasibility in Western patients
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2001Surgical damage to the pelvic autonomic nerves during radical hysterectomy is thought to be responsible for considerable morbidity, i.e., impaired bladder function, defecation problems, and sexual dysfunction. Previous anatomical studies and detailed study of surgical techniques in various Japanese oncology centers demonstrated that the anatomy of the ...

EP323 Extended nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2019Introduction/Background Based on our cadaveric studies on the running of autonomic nerves in the female pelvis we modified the Japanese traditional nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy (NSRH) to raise radicality of the cardinal ligament. Since cervical cancer FIGO stage IIB was also applied to the extended NSRH, the oncologic outcome was examined ...

[Nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy and radical hysterectomy: a retrospective study].
Zhonghua fu chan ke za zhi, 2011To compare Piver radical hysterectomy (RH) with nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy (NSRH) for cervical cancer patients in terms of postoperative physiology of pelvic autonomic nerve and perioperative complications.Ninety-three consecutive patients with invasive cervical cancer underwent RH (69 cases) or NSRH (24 cases) from March 2005 to March 2006 at ...

Abdominal Nerve-Sparing Radical Hysterectomy
2019Damage to the autonomic nerves during radical hysterectomy is a major cause of postoperative bladder dysfunction. Japanese gynecologists established nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy in 1961. Although a reduction of voiding dysfunction was observed, it was a problem of compromising radicality.

Nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy: steps to standardize surgical technique
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2019The primary objective of this review was to study and analyze techniques of nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy so as to be able to characterize and elucidate intricate steps for the dissection of each component of the pelvic autonomic nerve plexuses during nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy. This review was based on a five-step study design that ...
