Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

TMC4 localizes to multiple taste cell types in the mouse taste papillae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Transmembrane channel‐like 4 (TMC4), a voltage‐dependent chloride channel, plays a critical role in amiloride‐insensitive salty taste transduction. TMC4 is broadly expressed in all mature taste cell types, suggesting a possible involvement of multiple cell types in this pathway.

Correlation of the Lower Limb Nerve Conduction Velocity with Height and Leg Length

open access: yesKorean Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science
Nerve conduction study (NCS) is an essential test for the diagnosis and follow-up of peripheral neuropathy. NCS can objectively quantify peripheral nerve function. NCS is affected by physiological factors such as height, age, body mass index, etc. Hence,

Nerve conduction in relation to vibration exposure - a non-positive cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology, 2010
Background Peripheral neuropathy is one of the principal clinical disorders in workers with hand-arm vibration syndrome. Electrophysiological studies aimed at defining the nature of the injury have provided conflicting results.

Metformin promotes mitochondrial integrity through AMPK‐signaling in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Metformin mediates mitochondrial quality control in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) fibroblasts carrying mtDNA mutations. At therapeutic levels, metformin activates AMPK signaling to restore mitochondrial dynamics by promoting fusion and restraining fission, while preserving mitochondrial mass, enhancing autophagy/mitophagy and biogenesis ...

Serial nerve conduction studies of the tail of rhesus monkey ( Macaca mulatta ) and potential implications for interpretation of human neurophysiological studies

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2007
It is well accepted in clinical medicine that nerve conduction studies are helpful in the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. However, some clinicians utilize serial nerve conduction studies to make inferences regarding the progression of ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Impact of handedness on electromyographic activity of hand muscles and nerve conduction velocity during mobile phone use

open access: yesSport TK
This study investigated the impact of handedness on electromyographic (EMG) activity of hand muscles and nerve conduction velocity during smartphone use and compared the effects of left- and right-handedness on hand muscle activation and nerve ...
