Ischemic Degeneration of Nerve Fibers
Archives of Neurology, 1960Direct evidence that nerve fiber degeneration may follow occlusion of groups of regional vasa nervorum, although provided by the experiments of Okada 17 (1905), Adams 1 (1943), Durward 11 (1948), and Roberts 19 (1948), has been scanty, and the conclusions to be drawn from the highly variable, but mainly negative, results of these experiments are ...

The hydrostatic (Lp) and osmotic (LPD) filtration coefficients and the efflux rates of tritiated water were measured in the giant axon of Loligo vulgaris. The Lp was 8 to 14 X 10(-8) cm/sec/cm H2O and the LPD was two orders of magnitude smaller (3 to 6 X 10(-10) cm/sec/cm H2O).

The paper presents a critical review of various current concepts of the structure and kinetics of unmyelinated nerve fiber. A classification of nerve fibers, different from the earlier ones, is proposed, that demonstrates not only the morphological fiber types, but also the kinetics of their reversible transition stages from non-glial to myelinated ...

MEDULLATED NERVE FIBERS INVOLVING THE MACULA
The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, 1925In each of the two cases here reported the affected eye was highly myopic and central vision very poor. The fellow eye was slightly hyperopic with good vision. The fields of vision were greatly narrowed in the affected eyes and normal in their fellows. The first case was presented at the Colorado Ophthalmological Society, December, 1924.
