Variable Random Nerve Nets

1978
A most important problem of brain physiology and embryology is the topic “can an apparently unorganized system of interconnected neurons develop of itself into a system of more orderly interconnected neurons?” The paper shows, by means of an example, that this can indeed occur and how.

Neuronal connectomics: Hydra’s non-synaptic nerve net

Current Biology
The cnidarian polyp Hydra vulgaris has a simple nervous system consisting of two separate nerve nets. A new volume electron microscopy study of the endodermal nerve net reveals connections formed by neural interdigitations, or 'handshakes', instead of synapses.

A NERVE NET SYSTEM IN MODAL LOGIC

1963
Abstract : The nerve nets or automata as developed in the theories of McCulloch and Shannon exhibit a two valued extensional logic; i.e., Boolean algebra or a variation of it. The results of this mathematical and logical model are only applica ble to a limited degree to the actual function ing of living organisms.

[Mechanisms of development of long-periodicity oscillations in activity in nerve nets. Stochastically uniform nerve nets].

Neirofiziologiia = Neurophysiology, 1986
The possibility of generation of long-term activity in the stochastic uniform networks consisting of neuron-like threshold elements was analyzed by the mathematical simulation model. It was shown that the long-term (hundreds of milliseconds) self-stopping activity in the networks with a positive feed-back between units can be generated.

Representation of Events in Nerve Nets and Finite Automata

1956
An elementary exposition of the problems and results obtained during investigations in August, 1951, of the kinds of events any finite automation can respond to by assuming one of certain states.
