Estimating Proportion of an Age Class Nesting in Canada Geese
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1988We estimated proportions of each age class nesting in a population of small Canada geese (hutchinsii-parvipes complex of Branta canadensis), Northwest Territories, Canada. Because some nonnesters left the breeding grounds before incubation, the time period used for calculating the proportion nesting affected the estimates.

Streamwater ages in nested, seasonally cold Canadian watersheds
Hydrological Processes, 2019AbstractThe mean transit time (MTT) is an important descriptor of water storage and release dynamics in watersheds. Although MTT studies are numerous for many regions around the world, they are rare for prairie watersheds where seasonally cold or dry conditions require adequate methodological choices towards MTT estimation, especially regarding the ...

Online Friendships and the Bird’s Nest Drawing in the Age of the Internet
2023This study was a qualitative exploration of friendships facilitated through the internet and online video games. The goal was to investigate how online friendships compare to in-person friendships in terms of quality. Three English-speaking participants who played an online video game and had an online friendship provided unique case studies describing

Nest-Site Limitation of Secondary Cavity-Nesting Birds in Even-Age Southern Pine Forests
The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, 2010Abstract I used a randomized, replicated, controlled study design to test the hypothesis that nest-site availability limits breeding densities of secondary cavity nesting species in even-age southern pine (Pinus spp.) forests. Breeding densities of secondary cavity nesters increased significantly on treated plots after nest boxes were introduced. Total

The genealogy, site frequency spectrum and ages of two nested mutant alleles
Theoretical Population Biology, 2009In this paper we consider the genealogy of two nested mutant alleles, assuming the constant-size neutral coalescent model with infinite sites mutation. We study the conditional genealogy and derive explicit formulas for the joint and marginal site frequency spectra for the double, single and zero mutant allele. In addition, we find the mean ages of the

Posture and movement in very preterm infants at term age in and outside the nest
Child's Nervous System, 2015The objective of this study is to evaluate the use of nests on general movements (GM) and posture in very preterm infants at term age.Seventeen high-risk preterm infants-less than 30 weeks of gestation (GA)-underwent a video recording, lying in supine position, with or without nest. Posture, GM quality, and movements made around the child's midline, as

The effects of age and experience on strain differences for nesting behavior inMus musculus
Behavior Genetics, 1982To test the effects of prior experience with nest building, we measured adult mice of three inbred and one outbred stock for 4 days on 7 consecutive weeks. A tendency to increase the amount of cotton used between week 1 and week 2 was no greater than effects of environmental fluctuations from week to week.

Bayesian Modeling of Age-Specific Survival in Nesting Studies Under Dirichlet Priors
Biometrics, 2001There has been much work done in nest survival analysis using the maximum likelihood (ML) method. The ML method suffers from the instability of numerical calculations when models having a large number of unknown parameters are used. A Bayesian approach of model fitting is developed to estimate age-specific survival rates for nesting studies using a ...

Age and clutch size variation in Dusky Flycatcher nest survival
Journal of Ornithology, 2008Examination of spatial and temporal factors that influence nest survival can provide insight into habitat selection, reproductive decisions (e.g., clutch size), population dynamics, and conservation requirements for species. We used nest survival data for the Dusky Flycatcher Empidonax oberholseri to examine several factors that may influence nesting ...

Nest Success and Age-Specific Mortality in Traill's Flycatchers
The Auk, 1972THIS paper presents nest success, factors affecting nest success, agespecific mortality from egg-laying until fledging, and a crude estimate of the mean number of fledglings produced per pair in Traill's Flycatchers (Empidonax t. traillii). I studied a total of 106 nests in five summers from 1963-1967 at Toledo, Ohio, 1963-65; Fremont, Nebraska, 1966 ...
