Nest cameras do not affect nest survival in a meadow-nesting shorebird

Bird Conservation International, 2020
SummaryIdentifying the fate of birds’ nests and the causes of breeding failure is often crucial for the development of conservation strategies for threatened species. However, collecting these data by repeatedly visiting nests might itself contribute to nest failure or bias. To solve this dilemma, automatic cameras have increasingly been used as a time-

Weighted Nest Survival Models

Biometrics, 1993
Nest survival data possess two characteristics that are not fully exploited by traditional nest survival models: the data constitute a probability sample of the population and the length of time nests are observed provides information concerning age at the time of detection.

Green turtles nest survival: Quantifying the hidden predation

Marine Environmental Research, 2022
Trindade Island is the largest nesting site for green turtles Chelonia mydas in Brazil and one of the most important in the Atlantic ocean. The terrestrial crab Johngarthia lagostoma forages almost everywhere on the island, including the green turtle nesting beaches. Nothing is known about crab predation on sea turtle eggs at the time of nesting.

Nest-site selection, nest survival, productivity, and survival of Spruce Grouse in Wisconsin

The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, 2013
Abstract Spruce Grouse (Falcipennis canadensis) are listed as threatened in Wisconsin, and the boreal habitats in which they occur are likely to be threatened by changing climatic conditions. However, the limited information available on Spruce Grouse in the Upper Great Lakes region makes it unclear which habitat features are important for Spruce ...

Nest Site Selection Influences Cinnamon Teal Nest Survival in Colorado

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2020
ABSTRACTNest survival of ducks is partially a function of the spatiotemporal characteristics of the site at which a bird chooses to nest. Nest survival is also a fundamental component of population growth in waterfowl but is relatively unstudied for cinnamon teal (Spatula cyanoptera).

Effect of nest location on gopher tortoise nest survival

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2016
ABSTRACTGopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) populations are declining range‐wide primarily because of habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation, but low recruitment due to nest predation also may be contributing to this decline. The relationship of nest location and nest survival is unknown.
