Trappings of Success: Predator Removal for Duck Nest Survival in Alberta Parklands
Nest survival is most limited by nest predation, which often is increased by anthropogenic causes including habitat fragmentation, mesopredator release and predator subsidies.

Due to consistent population declines across the continent, grassland birds have become a guild of high conservation and management interest. Despite a large number of studies investigating grassland bird habitat associations, we know relatively little ...

What makes a host profitable? Parasites balance host nutritive resources against immunity [PDF]
Numerous host qualities can modulate parasite fitness, and among these, host nutritive resources and immunity are of prime importance. Indeed, parasite fitness increases with the amount of nutritive resources extracted from the host body and decreases ...

Patterns in avian reproduction in the Prudhoe Bay Oilfield, Alaska, 2003–2019
The Arctic Coastal Plain is one of the most important avian breeding grounds in the world; however, many species are in decline. Arctic‐breeding birds contend with short breeding seasons, harsh climatic conditions, and now, rapidly changing, variable ...

Variability in Nest Survival Rates and Implications to Nesting Studies
-We used four reasonably large samples (83-213) of Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) and Blue-winged Teal (A. discors) nests on an interstate highway right-of-way in southcentral North Dakota to evaluate potential biases in hatch-rate estimates. Twelve consecutive, weekly searches for nests were conducted with a cable-chain drag in 1976 and 1977. Nests were

REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF RIO GRANDE WILD TURKEYS ON THE EDWARDS PLATEAU, TEXAS
: Rio Grande wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo intermedia) abundance has declined in portions of the Edwards Plateau of Texas since the late 1970s. Because reproductive performance influences population dynamics, our objectives were to evaluate how hen ...

Effects of oil and gas development on duck nest survival in the Western Boreal Forest
Nest survival drives population demographics of most avian species. Researchers and managers have focused studies on investigating nest success in association with climate, land use change (e.g., agriculture), and predators in the Prairie and Arctic ...

Microhabitat Nest Cover Effect on Nest Survival of the Red-Crested Cardinal
Abstract We evaluated the influence of microhabitat vegetation cover on Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata) nest survival in natural forests in central eastern Argentina by monitoring 106 nests for 1,262 exposure days. Daily nest survival rates increased with vegetation cover above the nest and decreased linearly as the breeding season progressed.
