Background In individually randomised trials we might expect interventions delivered in groups or by care providers to result in clustering of outcomes for participants treated in the same group or by the same care provider.

Prediction of Clinical Outcomes in Acute Ischaemic Stroke Patients: A Comparative Study
Background: Clinical stroke rehabilitation decision making relies on multi-modal data, including imaging and other clinical assessments. However, most previously described methods for predicting long-term stroke outcomes do not make use of the full multi-

A Nested Attention Neural Hybrid Model for Grammatical Error Correction [PDF]
Grammatical error correction (GEC) systems strive to correct both global errors in word order and usage, and local errors in spelling and inflection. Further developing upon recent work on neural machine translation, we propose a new hybrid neural model with nested attention layers for GEC.

A shift in strategy or “error”? Strategy classification over multiple stochastic specifications [PDF]
We present a classification methodology that jointly assigns to a decision maker a best-fitting decision strategy for a set of choice data as well as a best-fitting stochastic specification of that decision strategy.

Bayesian estimators in uncertain nested error regression models
Nested error regression models are useful tools for analysis of grouped data, especially in the case of small area estimation. This paper suggests a nested error regression model using uncertain random effects in which the random effect in each area is expressed as a mixture of a normal distribution and a positive mass at $0$.

On non-negative estimation of variance components in mixed linear models
Alternative estimators have been derived for estimating the variance components according to Iterative Almost Unbiased Estimation (IAUE). As a result two modified IAUEs are introduced.

GNAQPMS-Hg v1.0, a global nested atmospheric mercury transport model: model description, evaluation and application to trans-boundary transport of Chinese anthropogenic emissions [PDF]
Atmospheric mercury (Hg) is a toxic pollutant and can be transported over the whole globe due to its long lifetime in the atmosphere. For the purpose of assessing Hg hemispheric transport and better characterizing regional Hg pollution, a global nested ...

On testing random effects in the nested-error regression model
We derive an exact F-test for random effects in the nested-error regression model. The derivation utilizes a matrix decomposition that offers a transformation of the response vector into two indepe...
