Sorting it out: bedding particle size and nesting material processing method affect nest complexity
As part of routine husbandry, an increasing number of laboratory mice receive nesting material in addition to standard bedding material in their cages. Nesting material improves health outcomes and physiological performance in mice that receive it.

A class of stochastic processes useful in the investigation of the deterioration and replacement of equipment, as well as in the study of group arrival/batch service queues, storage systems, epidemics and computer software, is introduced. These so-called nested renewal processes consist of ordinary and cumulative renewal processes sequentially nested ...

In multicenter studies, subjects in different centers may have different outcome distributions. This article is motivated by the problem of nonparametric modeling of these distributions, borrowing information across centers while also allowing centers to be clustered.

NestGPU: Nested Query Processing on GPU
2021 IEEE 37th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE), 2021Nested queries are commonly used to express complex use-cases by connecting the output of a subquery as an input to the outer query block. However, their execution is highly time-consuming. Researchers have proposed various algorithms and techniques that unnest subqueries to improve performance.

Nested Renewal Processes with Special Erlangian Densities
Operations Research, 1984We consider the class of nested renewal processes in which all densities are Special Erlangian. We first derive explicit expressions for the transient and steady-state distributions of the accumulated number of shocks and for their mean and variance. We also consider situations with infrequent replacements.

The Processing of Nested Epistemic Expressions
2022This paper presents a series of three experiments investigating the processing of nested epistemic expressions, utterances containing two epistemic modals in one clause, such as “he certainly may have forgotten”. While some linguists claim that in a nested epistemic expression, one modal is semantically embedded within the scope of the other modal ...

Naturally nested, but why dual process?
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2007AbstractThe article by Barbey & Sloman (B&S) provides a valuable framework for integrating research on base-rate neglect and respect. The theoretical arguments and data supporting the nested set model are persuasive. But we found the dual-process account to be under-specified and less compelling.
