Uncertainty analysis of gross primary production partitioned from net ecosystem exchange measurements [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2016
Gross primary production (GPP) can be separated from flux tower measurements of net ecosystem exchange (NEE) of CO2. This is used increasingly to validate process-based simulators and remote-sensing-derived estimates of simulated GPP at various time ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Effect of climate warming on the annual terrestrial net ecosystem CO2 exchange globally in the boreal and temperate regions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The net ecosystem CO2 exchange is the result of the imbalance between the assimilation process (gross primary production, GPP) and ecosystem respiration (RE).

How much aboveground net primary production can be used for human activities in the alpine grasslands in the Three Rivers Source Region (TRSR), China?

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2022
Sustainable management of grasslands has always been an urgent issue for policy-makers. The three rivers source region (TRSR) contains widely distributed natural grasslands and is sensitive to climate warming. To enable the sustainable development of the

Effects of trophic status, water level, and temperature on shallow lake metabolism and metabolic balance: A standardized pan‐European mesocosm experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Important drivers of gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (ER) in lakes are temperature, nutrients, and light availability, which are predicted to be affected by climate change.

Disturbance, complexity, and succession of net ecosystem production in North America's temperate deciduous forests

open access: yes, 2016
Century-old forests in the U.S. upper Midwest and Northeast power much of North America's terrestrial carbon (C) sink, but these forests' production and C sequestration capacity are expected to soon decline as fast-growing early successional species die ...

Seasonal variation in net ecosystem CO2 exchange of a Brazilian seasonally dry tropical forest

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Forest ecosystems sequester large amounts of atmospheric CO2, and the contribution from seasonally dry tropical forests is not negligible. Thus, the objective of this study was to quantify and evaluate the seasonal and annual patterns of CO2 exchanges in

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Modeling seasonal to annual carbon balance of Mer Bleue Bog, Ontario, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Northern peatlands contain enormous quantities of organic carbon within a few meters of the atmosphere and play a significant role in the planetary carbon balance.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...
