How do variations in the temporal distribution of rainfall events affect ecosystem fluxes in seasonally water-limited Northern Hemisphere shrublands and forests? [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2012
Rainfall regimes became more extreme over the course of the 20th century, characterised by fewer and larger rainfall events. Such changes are expected to continue throughout the current century.

Inconsistent changes in NPP and LAI determined from the parabolic LAI versus NPP relationship

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2021
Rapidly altering vegetation dynamics, is an aspect of global environmental change which has consequences for ecosystem structure, function, and the provision of ecosystem services.

Rates of sustainable forest harvest depend on rotation length and weathering of soil minerals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Removals of forest biomass in the northeastern US may intensify over the coming decades due to increased demand for renewable energy. For forests to regenerate successfully following intensified harvests, the nutrients removed from the ecosystem in the ...

Elemene Augments the Effects of Anti‐PD‐1 Immunotherapy on Hepatocellular Carcinoma by Regulating the miR‐130a‐5p/SPP/MHC‐I Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Elemene increases SPP expression by competitively binding with miR‐130a‐5p to suppress SPP mRNA degradation. This led to more antigen/MHC‐I complexes being expressed on the cell surface, which consequently facilitated the recognition and killing of HCC cells by CTLs and enhancing the antitumor immune efficacy of anti‐PD‐1.

Rapid climate changes responsible for increased net global cropland carbon sink during the last 40 years

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Cropland ecosystem is an essential site for the terrestrial carbon cycle. However, the carbon sink potential has been severely underestimated or even considered nonexistent since the carbon sink capacity of the cropland ecosystem has been long neglected,

Predicting plankton net community production in the Atlantic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present, test and implement two contrasting models to predict euphotic zone net community production (NCP), which are based on 14C primary production (PO14CP) to NCP relationships over two latitudinal (ca.

Navigating the Ethereal Tightrope: The Nanogenerator Manipulates Neurons for Immune Equilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores how nanogenerators modulate neuroimmune responses, offering innovative strategies for treating neurological disorders. By interfacing with neural pathways, they enable precise control of immune activity, especially via vagus nerve stimulation.

Global evidence on nitrogen saturation of terrestrial ecosystem net primary productivity

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2016
The continually increasing nitrogen (N) deposition is expected to increase ecosystem aboveground net primary production (ANPP) until it exceeds plant N demand, causing a nonlinear response and N saturation for ANPP.

Forest Stand Structure and Primary Production in relation to Ecosystem Development, Disturbance, and Canopy Composition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Temperate forests are complex ecosystems that sequester carbon (C) in biomass. C storage is related to ecosystem-scale forest structure, changing over succession, disturbance, and with community composition.

Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction
