Dataset of the net primary production on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau using a soil water content improved Biome-BGC model

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
The Biome-BGC (biome biogeochemical cycles) model is widely used for modeling the net primary productivity (NPP) of ecosystems. However, this model ignores soil water changes during the freeze-thaw process in permafrost regions, which may lead to ...

Modelling the recent historical impacts of atmospheric CO2 and climate change on Mediterranean vegetation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
During the past century, annual mean temperature has increased by 0.75 degrees C and precipitation has shown marked variation throughout the Mediterranean basin.

What is NPP? Inconsistent accounting of respiratory fluxes in the definition of net primary production

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, 2005
Primary production represents a globally important flux of carbon between the atmosphere and the biosphere. From an ecological perspective, it measures the rate at which solar energy is stored by plants as organic matter, and is therefore a measure of the rate at which solar energy is captured and made available to the rest of the food chain (Odum 1971)

Record phenological responses to climate change in three sympatric penguin species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This paper is impressive because we managed to monitor extensively a really difficult place to reach and operate in. We deployed 77 cameras across Antarctica and the Sub Antarctic islands to monitor three different species of penguins. We found that they are the fastest advancing vertebrates with respect to their timing of breeding.

The role of climatic factor timing on grassland net primary productivity in Altay, Xinjiang

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
Grassland, as highly vulnerable ecosystem, requires a comprehensive understanding of its dynamics and response patterns to climate factors in response to climate change challenges.

Global determinants of home range sizes in felids: Evidence of human disturbance impact

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study is the first to demonstrate the influence of anthropogenic factors and species richness in felids on home range size across the entire felid taxon. Felids are a taxon of major interest in conservation biology, and gaining a comprehensive view of their spatial ecology will help derive global conservation recommendations.

Warming of alpine tundra enhances belowground production and shifts community towards resource acquisition traits

open access: yesEcosphere, 2020
Climate warming is expected to stimulate plant growth in high‐elevation and high‐latitude ecosystems, significantly increasing aboveground net primary production (ANPP).

Spatial–Temporal Dynamics of Grassland Net Primary Productivity and Its Driving Mechanisms in Northern Shaanxi, China

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Grasslands, a vital ecosystem and component of the global carbon cycle, play a significant role in evaluating ecosystem health and monitoring the global carbon balance.

Resource Availability and Habitat Quality Drive Time‐Lag Effects in High‐Altitude Ungulate Distribution

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Our analysis revealed that while climate strongly influenced species distributions, habitat change drove most observed delays in distribution responses. In terms of community ecology, dispersed communities exhibited shorter time lags than concentrated groups. Analyses of lag duration revealed a 5–6‐year distribution lag effect in high‐altitude ungulate

Generation of High Resolution Vegetation Productivity from a Downscaling Method

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Accurately estimating vegetation productivity is important in the research of terrestrial ecosystems, carbon cycles and climate change. Although several gross primary production (GPP) and net primary production (NPP) products have been generated and many
