On the Emissivity and Absorptivity of Plastic Shading Nets under Natural Conditions

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
It is impossible to directly measure the thermal radiative properties of shading nets because of the net's perforated structure and the difficulty to distinguish the transmitted, reflected, and emitted radiation on the net surface. In addition, Kirchhoff'

Evaluation of surface energy and radiation balance systems for FIFE [PDF]

open access: yes
The energy balance and radiation balance components were determined at six sites during the First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project Field Experiment (FIFE) conducted south of Manhattan, Kansas during the summer of 1987.

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Validation of the Deardorff model for estimating energy balance components for a sugarcane crop Validação do modelo de Deardorff para cálculo do balanço de energia durante um ciclo de cana-de-açúcar

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2008
The quantification of the available energy in the environment is important because it determines photosynthesis, evapotranspiration and, therefore, the final yield of crops.

Radiation pressure: A possible cause for the superrotation of the Venusian atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yes
The superrotation of the venusian atmosphere relative to the planet's surface has long been known. Yet the process by which this vigorous circulation is maintained is poorly understood.

Which role do excited states play in radiation damage to organic solid-state compounds? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Ionizing radiation induces radicals in organic materials. When such species are created in biological macromolecules like DNA, they harm living organisms. This detrimental effect is explicitly exploited for the sterilisation of e.g.

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.
