Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

What is Welfare? A Qualitative Study into Perceptions of Equine Welfare of the Dutch Equestrian Community

open access: yesInternational Journal of Equine Science
Equine welfare is an increasingly important topic in the Netherlands and abroad. While existing literature broadly captures equine welfare concerns, research focused on Dutch horse enthusiasts is sparse.

Understanding the Drivers of an 'Entrepreneurial' Economy: Lessons from Japan and the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes
Globalization and an increasing importance of knowledge in the production process cause many developed countries to move from a more 'managed' to a more 'entrepreneurial' economy in recent decades. In the former type of economy, large and incumbent firms

Defect Analysis of the β– to γ–Ga2O3 Phase Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The role of defects at all the relevant stages of the β$\beta$‐ to γ$\gamma$‐Ga2O3 polymorph transition is investigated using a multi method approach. The positron annihilation spectroscopy based results show that the defect density decreases after the transition, and that changes in defect configuration within the γ phase occur with increasing ...

Income mobility and deprivation dynamics among the elderly in Belgium and the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyzes the dynamics of income and deprivation among the elderly in Belgium and the Netherlands between 1985 and 1988. It appears that, in 1985, the average level of deprivation in Belgium and the Netherlands was about the same.

Cryo‐EM of Rationally Designed Photosystem I Nanoassembly on Graphene Validates Orientation‐Driven Enhancement of Photocatalytic Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The first cryo‐EM visualization and quantification of oriented Photosystem I (PSI) on single‐layer graphene is reported. Domain‐specific covalent anchoring of PSI, with the reducing side of the biophotocatalyst toward graphene, promotes three‐fold higher anodic photocurrent generation compared to a randomly physisorbed counterpart. This approach allows

Catalytic TiO2 with Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Highly Sensitive, Selective, and Non‐Invasive Monitoring of Sweat L‐Cysteine

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐assembled monolayer of 3‐mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) molecular receptor and titanium oxide‐modified carbon cloth (MPTS/TiO2/CC) was synthesized for the specific detection of sweat L‐cysteine, which is associated with the precision neutrition, cardiovascular system and neuro system.
