This chapter deals with the long-term strategic planning and design of the supply chain. Section 6.1 explains the planning situation and the problem setting. Section 6.2 outlines the formulation of the problem as an optimization model and Sect. 6.3 the use of such models within the strategic planning process.

Trends in Plant Science, 1999
The intrinsic capacity of the shoot apical meristem for self-regulation and the positional specification of its cells implies the existence of an elaborate and versatile communication network. We propose a model that pictures this network as a system of overlapping signal circuits, which support local tasks as well as coordinating indeterminate shoot ...

Cloudlet network design optimization
2015 IFIP Networking Conference (IFIP Networking), 2015Major interest is currently given to the integration of clusters of virtualization servers, also referred to as `cloudlets', into the access network to allow higher performance and reliability in the access to mobile cloud services. We tackle the cloudlet network design problem for mobile access networks.

Generalized network design polyhedra
Networks, 2011AbstractIn recent years, there has been an increased literature on so‐called generalized network design problems (GNDPs), such as the generalized minimum spanning tree problem and the generalized traveling salesman problem. In a GNDP, the node set of a graph is partitioned into “clusters,” and the feasible solutions must contain one node from each ...
