The prevalence of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is rising annually, posing health and economic challenges, with limited treatments available. Diosgenin, a natural steroidal compound found in various plants, holds potential as a therapeutic candidate. Recent studies have confirmed diosgenin's anti-inflammatory and metabolism-modulating properties.

Animal‐Free Setup of a 3D Mature Adipocyte‐Macrophage Co‐Culture to Induce Inflammation In Vitro
A completely animal‐free 3D co‐culture is developed using human fat cells and immune cells. Animal‐based materials are replaced with gellan gum hydrogel and a serum‐free medium. Immune cells are effectively activated, producing specific inflammatory signals.

Engineering of a functional protein corona with a synergistic heparin‐ATIII complex significantly improves hemocompatibility of PEG nanoparticles. Through deliberate engineering of the protein corona, a 4‐fold reduction in coagulation activation (F1 + 2) without inducing adverse thromboinflammatory reactions (CD11b, C5a) is achieved without disrupting ...

Systems pharmacology – Towards the modeling of network interactions
Mechanism-based pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics (PKPD) and disease system (DS) models have been introduced in drug discovery and development research, to predict in a quantitative manner the effect of drug treatment in vivo in health and disease. This requires consideration of several fundamental properties of biological systems behavior including:

A mechanically active OsteoChondral Unit (OCU)‐on‐Chip platform mimicking the OCU's functional anatomy and the strain gradient across the osteochondral interface is presented. Upon compartment‐specific hyperphysiological compression, the model replicates mechanisms observed in osteoarthritis (OA) progression, such as calcium crystal accumulation ...
