On the Temporal Variability of Precipitation in Iraq: Arid‐Wet Years and Extreme Events

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Daily and monthly precipitation data in Iraq display high seasonal to interdecadal variability, with arid and wet years that have very distinct seasonal cycles. Monthly rainfall is significantly correlated with the Indian Ocean Dipole. Extreme events are identified and classified as belonging to four different weather patterns, allowing to obtain daily

A Power‐Efficient Monte Carlo Framework for Nonlinear Light–Matter Interactions: In Silico Modeling of Spontaneous and Stimulated Raman Scattering in Turbid Media

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Power‐efficient Monte Carlo modeling of nonlinear light–matter interactions in turbid media is demonstrated using Apple Silicon–accelerated photon transport. The Metal‐base framework enables accurate simulation of spontaneous and stimulated Raman scattering, revealing detection‐dependent SRS efficiency while providing a scalable, energy‐efficient ...

Constructing the Neumann series -- an example

open access: yes
The Neumann series for the integral equation \(\theta(\xi)=\theta_ 0+\nu\int^ \ell_ 0\theta(\varepsilon)K(\xi,\varepsilon)d\varepsilon\), in which \(K(\xi,\varepsilon)=\{\xi\text{ for } \xi\varepsilon\}\), leads to the solution \(\theta(\xi)=\theta_ 0\times\sec\sqrt \nu\ell\cos\sqrt \nu(\ell-\xi)\), for every \(\nu\) distinct of an eigenvalue \(\nu_ j=[

Recent Advances in Photonic Bound States in the Continuum: From Fundamentals to Engineering and Implementation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent progress in meta‐photonics with a focus on bound states in the continuum (BICs) as a powerful platform for light confinement and control. It covers fundamental concepts, design strategies across optical regimes, symmetry breaking for practical quasi‐BICs, tunable and AI‐assisted BIC devices, and emerging applications in ...

Stochastic Second-Order Optimization via von Neumann Series

open access: yes, 2016
A stochastic iterative algorithm approximating second-order information using von Neumann series is discussed. We present convergence guarantees for strongly-convex and smooth functions. Our analysis is much simpler in contrast to a similar algorithm and its analysis, LISSA.

Efficient First‐Principles Inverse Design of Nanolasers

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This article introduces a first‐principles inverse‐design framework for nanolasers that directly incorporates nonlinear lasing physics. By unifying steady‐state ab‐initio laser theory (SALT) with topology optimization, it reveals how spatial hole burning, gain saturation, and cavity‐emitter coupling shape laser performance, enabling efficient discovery
