RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Issues Concerning the Mechanisms of Bone Conduction

open access: yesAudiology Research
Air and bone conduction thresholds are used to differentiate between conductive and sensori-neural hearing losses because bone conduction is thought to bypass the conductive apparatus, directly activating the inner ear.

Does the type of electrode affect the electromyoneurographic parameters in rats? [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2019
Purpose: To evaluate if the type of electrode (needle vs. surface) affects the electromyoneurography parameters in rats. Methods: Twenty male rats were anesthetized, then compound muscle action potential were recorded using a Neuropack S1 MEB- 9400 ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Evaluation of the Association Among Cerebrospinal Fluid Protein, Inflammatory Markers, and Electromyography in Pediatric Guillain-Barre Syndrome

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni
Aim: Previous studies have shown that the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein level correlates with the number of demyelination criteria in electromyography in adult patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), which is a potentially life-threatening ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

SENSORY REGRESSION TIME FROM SUBARACHNOID BLOCK WITH HYPERBARIC 0.75% BUPIVACAINE IN THE OBESE PATIENT [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The purpose of this study was to determine if obese patients have a different sensory regression time from subarachnoid block than non-obese patients using hyperbaric 0.75% bupivacaine. A quasi-experimental design was used. Twenty patients were separated

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

The role of neural precursor cells and self assembling peptides in nerve regeneration

open access: yesJournal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 2013
Objective Cranial nerve injury involves loss of central neural cells in the brain stem and surrounding support matrix, leading to severe functional impairment.

A Real-Time Dual-Microphone Speech Enhancement Algorithm Assisted by Bone Conduction Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The quality and intelligibility of the speech are usually impaired by the interference of background noise when using internet voice calls. To solve this problem in the context of wearable smart devices, this paper introduces a dual-microphone, bone ...
