Synchronous neural oscillations and cognitive processes

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2003
The central problem for cognitive neuroscience is to describe how cognitive processes arise from brain processes. This review summarizes the recent evidence that synchronous neural oscillations reveal much about the origin and nature of cognitive processes such as memory, attention and consciousness.

Spiking neural oscillators

Proceedings of the 41st SICE Annual Conference. SICE 2002., 2003
In spiking neural networks (SNNs) the information processing is carried out by spike trains in a manner similar to the generic biological neurons. This paper presents a method for synthesis of neural oscillators by SNN's. We propose a learning method of SNN's such that they possess the desired periodic spike trains with specified spike emission times.

Neural Oscillations: Understanding a Neural Code of Pain

The Neuroscientist, 2020
Neural oscillations play an important role in the integration and segregation of brain regions that are important for brain functions, including pain. Disturbances in oscillatory activity are associated with several disease states, including chronic pain.

Neural Oscillations Orchestrate Multisensory Processing

The Neuroscientist, 2018
At any given moment, we receive input through our different sensory systems, and this information needs to be processed and integrated. Multisensory processing requires the coordinated activity of distinct cortical areas. Key mechanisms implicated in these processes include local neural oscillations and functional connectivity between distant cortical

Analysis of a neural oscillator

Biological Cybernetics, 2011
Although the Matsuoka neural oscillator, which was originally proposed as a model of central pattern generators, has widely been used for various robots performing rhythmic movements, its characteristics are not clearly explained even now. This article shows two closed-form relations that express the frequency and amplitude of the generated oscillation
