Discrete Neural Oscillators

2016
The therapeutic mechanisms of action of DBS likely involve neural and neuronal oscillators. “Neuronal oscillators” describes periodic fluctuations of electrical potentials across the neuronal membrane, particularly in the soma, which is reflected in an action-potential-initiating segment.

Neural Oscillators: Weak Coupling

2010
This chapter begins the second part of the book. By now, we hope that the reader has a thorough knowledge of single cell dynamics and is ready to move onto networks. There are two main approaches to the analysis and modeling of networks of neurons. In one approach, the details of the action potentials (spikes) matter a great deal.

Neural Oscillations and Multisensory Processing

Neural oscillations play a role in sensory processing by coordinating synchronized neuronal activity. Synchronization of gamma oscillations is engaged in local computation of feedforward signals and synchronization of alpha-beta oscillations is engaged in feedback processing over long-range areas.

Weak Phase-Resetting in Neural Oscillators

2005 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology 27th Annual Conference, 2005
Phase-resetting experiments have frequently been employed to understand the input/output dynamics of oscillatory physiological systems, such as the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Analogous techniques based on phase-oscillator models have often been used in computational studies of neuronal networks.

Complex Oscillations in Simple Neural Systems

The Biological Bulletin, 1997
One of the goals of this workshop is to explore how research on aquatic plants and animals can improve our understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying the effects of gravity on biological processes. In general, the focus of “gravitational biology” has been to investigate gravitational effects at the organismal level rather than at the cellular ...

Neural Oscillation Correlates Chemistry Decision-Making

International Journal of Neural Systems, 2018
This study explored the electroencephalography (EEG) dynamics during a chemistry-related decision-making task and further examined whether the correctness of the decision-making performance could be reflected by EEG activity. A total of 66 undergraduate students’ EEG were collected while they participated in a chemistry-related decision-making task in ...

Neural organization of the locomotive oscillator

Biological Cybernetics, 1993
We study the relation of neural development, organization, and activity to behavior. We provide a model of the locomotive oscillator, a neural system supplying alternating stimulation to extensor and flexor muscles creating an oscillatory motion.

Learning model for coupled neural oscillators

Network: Computation in Neural Systems, 1999
Neurophysiological experiments have shown that many motor commands in living systems are generated by coupled neural oscillators. To coordinate the oscillators and achieve a desired phase relation with desired frequency, the intrinsic frequencies of component oscillators and coupling strengths between them must be chosen appropriately. In this paper we
