Aberrant neural oscillations in poststroke aphasia

Psychophysiology
AbstractNeural oscillations are electrophysiological indicators of synchronous neuronal activity in the brain. Recent work suggests aberrant patterns of neuronal activity in patients with poststroke aphasia. Yet, there is a lack of systematic explorations of neural oscillations in poststroke aphasia.

Oscillations in neural networks

1980
Oscillations represent a very common feature on all levels of nervous activity. Starting from the repetitive firing of spontaneously active single cells (Eccles, 1973), the next complex phenomenon consists in regularly distributed bursts of impulses in isolated cells (Chen et. al. 1971; Gainer, 1972).

Global Oscillations of CA3 Neural Fields

2008
The conditions which cause in the hippocampal CA3 field global oscillatory activities behaviorally important for their links to learning and memory, such as theta and gamma rhythms, have been analyzed with great details. To this aim, the theoretical framework devised years ago by the present author for the study of activities of large neural fields ...

Synchronous neural oscillations and cognitive processes

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2003
The central problem for cognitive neuroscience is to describe how cognitive processes arise from brain processes. This review summarizes the recent evidence that synchronous neural oscillations reveal much about the origin and nature of cognitive processes such as memory, attention and consciousness.
