A Convolutional Neural Network-based Model of Neural Pathways in the Retina

2019 41st Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2019
A variety of the visual functions of the vertebrate retina rely on the interactions between excitation and inhibition within specialized retinal circuitry. The nonlinear properties of these interactions, as well as a large number of cell types and pathways involved, pose a challenge for characterizing many of these retinal functions.

Neural pathways for the control of birdsong production

Journal of Neurobiology, 1997
As in humans, song production in birds involves the intricate coordination of at least three major groups of muscles: namely, those of the syrinx, the respiratory apparatus, and the upper vocal tract, including the jaw. The pathway in songbirds that controls the syrinx originates in the telencephalon and projects via the occipitomesencephalic tract ...

Horizontal and vertical pathways in neural induction

Trends in Neurosciences, 1991
The regional pattern of the developing nervous system is established early in development. Cues for regionalization of the neuroectoderm might originate from two sources: a vertical signal from the underlying mesoderm, or a signal transmitted horizontally within the neuroectoderm. Recently, these questions have been examined in the Xenapus embryo using
