Probable sepsis‐associated encephalopathy as a component of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in a cat with pyothorax

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 104, Issue 8, Page 523-531, August 2026.
A 2‐year‐old male neutered domestic shorthair cat with bacterial pyothorax was referred to a tertiary hospital for treatment of sepsis. He met criteria for multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and developed new‐onset neurological dysfunction subsequent to the development of sepsis.

Point-of-Care NSE Biosensor for Objective Assessment of Stroke Risk

open access: yesBiosensors
The rapid identification of stroke is critical to improving stroke patient outcomes. Existing protocols for assessing the risk of stroke are subjective and may be further complicated by nonspecific symptoms, increasing the risk of misdiagnosis.

Multi‐Omics‐Guided Design and Safety Engineering of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics: From Molecular Perturbation to Predictive Toxicology and Precision Translation

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 2, August 2026.
Multi‐omics (proteomics, metabolomics, and single‐cell/spatial transcriptomics) provides a systems framework to distinguish on‐target efficacy from off‐target and toxicity signatures of chemically modified nucleic acid therapeutics, enabling omics‐guided structure–activity and safety optimisation from discovery to clinical translation. ABSTRACT Nucleic

Lysine l‐Lactylation: Bridging Metabolism, Chromatin and Disease

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 59, Issue 8, August 2026.
Enzymatic regulation of KL‐la. The enzymatic regulation of KL‐la involves two distinct pathways for L‐lactate accumulation: intracellular production through glycolysis‐derived pyruvate conversion by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) or direct cellular uptake via monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs). These L‐lactate pools fuel two distinct lactylation pathways—

Elevated serum miR-142-5p correlates with ischemic lesions and both NSE and S100β in ischemic stroke patients

open access: yesOpen Medicine
This study aims to evaluate the correlation between miRNAs and known nerve injury markers neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and S100β in ischemic stroke (IS) patients, exploring its efficacy.

Neuron specific enolase-positive breast carcinomas.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 1992
Ninety-eight patients treated for breast carcinomas were followed from 54 to 75 months after primary diagnosis. All had undergone a modified radical mastectomy with removal of axillary lymph nodes. 36 breast carcinomas were NSE-positive and 62 were negative. NSE-positive tumours were significantly more frequently estrogen receptor-positive than the NSE-

Anti‐Modified Protein Antibodies in Rheumatoid Arthritis: Pathogenic, Protective, or Passive Bystander?

open access: yesImmunological Reviews, Volume 341, Issue 1, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The presence of anti‐modified protein antibodies (AMPA) is a hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). AMPA recognize post‐translationally modified proteins and are cross‐reactive. AMPA include anti‐citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA), anti‐carbamylated protein antibodies (anti‐CarP), and anti‐acetylated protein antibodies (AAPA).

Differentiating Late Awakeners from Non-Awakeners in Comatose Cardiac Arrest Survivors: Diagnostic Value of Multimodal Monitoring in Patients with Indeterminate Prognosis

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: Current guidelines recommend prognostication at 72 h after cardiac arrest, yet a subset of patients (Late Awakeners) recover consciousness after this window.

Diagnostic Challenges in Choroid Plexus Tumours

open access: yesNeuropathology and Applied Neurobiology, Volume 52, Issue 4, August 2026.
In this review, we summarise the diagnostic spectrum of choroid plexus tumours, highlight key age‐dependent differential diagnoses across infants, children/adolescents and adults, and outline how histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular profiling support accurate tumour classification.

Kinetic parameter prediction using neural networks identifies limitations to C4 photosynthesis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 3, Page 1578-1594, August 2026.
Schematic overview of the generation of artificial training data and training of neural networks in C4TUNE. Summary Kinetic models of photosynthesis enable time‐resolved predictions of traits related to this key process and provide the means to identify factors limiting photosynthesis.
