Neurologic Clinics, 2009
Transcranial Doppler (TCD) is called the "doctor's stethoscope for the brain," and the use of TCD with portable carotid and vertebral duplex scanning provides structural and physiologic imaging extension of the neurologic examination. Ultrasound expands the ability of clinicians to detect, localize, and quantify disease and to evaluate hemodynamic ...

Echocontrast agents in neurosonology.
Functional neurology, 1999Temporal hyperostosis is the major limitation of transtemporal insonation of the basal cerebral arteries in transcranial Doppler sonography. New contrast agents capable of traversing the pulmonary bed offer new prospects for overcoming this limitation.

Neurosonology is non-invasive, portable, and has excellent temporal resolution, making it a valuable and increasingly popular tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological conditions when compared to other imaging techniques. This guide looks beyond the use of neurovascular ultrasound in stroke to encompass a wide range of other neurological ...

Carotid and vertebral artery ultrasound, as well as transcranial Doppler ultrasound in neurosonology, has a long tradition in Croatia for diagnostic purposes. The first neurosonology laboratory was founded in Zagreb in the mid seventies, when continous-wave Doppler was used for analysis of the carotid bifurcation.

Ultrasound studies are routinely performed in stroke centers. They include both extracranial and intracranial noninvasive cerebrovascular evaluation. Extracranial color and power Doppler enables information of noninvasive carotid and vertebral artery testing.

Practical Aspects of Establishing a Neurosonology Laboratory
Journal of Child Neurology, 1989The utilization of noninvasive ultrasound techniques to evaluate adult and pediatric patients has become widely accepted in the neurology practice. As utilization increases, however, the need for standardization and technical competence becomes increasingly important.

Neurosonological Examinations of Transient Ischemic Attack
2013Cerebrovascular ultrasonography is the only modality that provides real-time information about blood flow in various cervicocerebral arteries. Continuous information can be obtained over extended periods with high resolution and excellent spatial display.

Neurosonology in clinical practice.
The Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society : official organ of the Louisiana State Medical Society, 1997The role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease is reviewed and is compared with other existing vascular imaging modalities. The present and future role of neurosonology is discussed including transcranial Doppler and carotid Doppler duplex ultrasound.

[Neurosonological examinations].
Rinsho shinkeigaku = Clinical neurology, 2005Neurosonological examinations play an important role in the diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease. The target used to be limited to the extracranial carotid artery but is now extended to the intracranial arteries. Carotid artery ultrasound can evaluate not only the degree of stenosis but also the vulnerability of plaque.
