Novel therapeutic targets for chronic visceral pain in gastrointestinal disorders
Chronic visceral pain imposes a major clinical challenge in gastroenterology and beyond, profoundly impacting patients' quality of life. Background and Purpose Adenosine is a potent regulator of neurotransmission and neuronal excitability, through activation of Gi coupled adenosine A1 receptors (A1Rs). Adenosine has gained interest as an anticonvulsant because of its endogenous involvement in ending seizure activity, but peripheral side effects require local application.

Normalization of deviance in neuromodulation for epilepsy
Abstract The rapid expansion of neuromodulation therapies for drug resistant epilepsy has introduced a growing risk of normalization of deviance (NoD). This occurs when incremental deviations from established procedures are iteratively reinterpreted as the care standard in the absence of immediate adverse outcomes.

Abstract Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is one of the most severe, yet one of the most discussed, childhood‐onset developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs). Dissent among epileptologists on the definition and minimum set of electroclinical features derives from the high etiological heterogeneity within the syndrome, which could make its ...

Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to determine whether bilateral independent or unclear (BI/U) scalp electroencephalographic (EEG) ictal onset patterns may predict the diagnostic yield of stereo‐electroencephalography (SEEG) and inform surgical decision‐making in patients with focal drug‐resistant epilepsy.
