Model of three level neutral point clamped converter (NPC) for grid connected photovoltaic systems
2015 38th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2015Photovoltaic modules as direct converters of solar energy into electrical energy are typically connected to the power grid trough standard two level converters. A photovoltaic system can be connected to the power grid if it can satisfy the IEEE standardized conditions set by the power grid operator.

The balancing properties of DC link compensation for 3-phase Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) Converter
Proceedings of The 7th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2012One of the major benefits of a three level NPC multilevel converter is that it requires only one DC source. However, the intermediate Neutral Point (NP) voltage of the converter must be maintained midway between the two outer dc-bus voltages, to avoid semiconductor device overvoltage stress and output modulation distortion. Various approaches have been

This paper presents a passive method to balance the voltage of the split capacitors in Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) based Voltage Source Converters (VSC). The voltage of the two capacitors is equated by connecting a low VA transformer at the AC side of the converter. The transformer is connected in wye configuration and its neutral point is connected to

This paper is on offshore wind energy conversion systems installed on the deep water and equipped with back-to-back neutral point clamped full-power converter, permanent magnet synchronous generator with an AC link. The model for the drive train is a five-mass model which incorporates the dynamic of the structure and the tower in order to emulate the ...

A well-known problem of three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter is the voltage imbalance in the dc-link capacitors. This paper proposes the dc-link capacitor voltage balancing method where a common offset voltage is injected. The offset voltage consists of a harmonic voltage and a magnitude difference between the upper and the lower capacitors.

As wide-bandgap technologies become more readily available for commercial applications, there are still a few key limitations of the technology which need to be addressed, such as the high levels of electromagnetic interference generated by the faster switching speeds attained by these devices.
